Calico Baked Beans for Crock Pot
from Shirley Kindem, Apple Valley, MN

Double this recipe - it' a real favorite!

Sauté until crisp:   1/2 lb diced bacon

Add and cook until meat
loses its red color:
                                1/2 lb ground beef
                                1 large chopped onion
Drain off fat.
Combine:
              2  T granulated sugar
                                1/2 C packed brown sugar
                                1/4 C ketchup
                                1/4 C barbecue sauce
                                2 T molasses
                                1 T dry mustard
                                1/2 t chili powder
                                1 t salt
                                1/2 t pepper

Mix with the meat and onion mixture.
(Can be done ahead, refrigerated, and combined with
the beans the next day before baking.)

Blend together with the following:
1 - 16 oz. can kidney beans
1 - 16 oz. can lima beans
1 28 oz. can pork & beans in tomato sauce

Bake:  in moderate oven (350º) covered for 1 hour; uncover last 15 min if mixture is too juicy.

Serves 10 - 12.  (Not quite!  It is a favorite!)

Note:  When I double the recipe I add other beans for more interest:  garbanzo, chili, lighter or darker kidney beans, etc.

CROCK POT COOKING:

When cooking in crock pot drain juices from all beans except pork & beans before combining, or it will be too juicy.

Bake on high (250º) for 5 hours.
